Business Project Manager

Supercom Industries is currently seeking a Business Project Manager to coordinate and manage our various business services and contracts including:

  • Developing, concluding, implementing and/or managing numerous major business contracts and relationships with a wide range of private sector partners to execute some $100+ million in subcontracts in disciplines ranging from clearing and access road development, worker camps, environmental and engineering services, construction mats, among others;

  • Identifying and engaging smaller businesses and entrepreneurs from the Supercom communities to raise awareness of business and contracting opportunities, and to support these individuals and companies to pursue, negotiate and contract or supply and service contracts with our major subcontract partners;

  • Coordinating efforts with the Coordinator of Employment & Training Programs and related staff

Utility Arborist Apprentice

Hydro One and the Power Workers’ Union (PWU) require individuals to work as Utility Arborist Apprentices through the Hydro One /PWU Joint Forestry Training Committee (JFTC). The JFTC is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of an apprenticeship training program as provided in Appendix “A” between Hydro One and the PWU.

Job Overview:

At Hydro One, Utility Arborists serve an apprenticeship to become a certified Utility Arborist. As a Utility Arborist apprentice, you are enrolled in and are expected to complete the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development Utility Arborist apprenticeship.

The Utility Arborist is a 6,000 hour apprenticeship comprised of 4 terms of 1,500 hours. Wages increase at the beginning of each term.  After completion of the 6,000 hours and 3 levels of in-school training the apprentice is expected to successfully write the Utility Arborist Certificate of Qualification examination.

Utility Arborists’ primary duty is to maintain power service to Hydro One customers. Utility Arborists perform:

  • Line clearing adjacent to distribution and transmission electrical lines and associated equipment. The work is performed by climbing a tree from an aerial device or from the ground.
  • The removals of brush, diseased trees and branches that have potential to interfere with electricity distribution and transmission lines
  • Work with a partner or as part of a crew.
  • The removal of brush and small trees on transmission and distribution right of ways. This includes carrying out all phases of vegetation management including the application of pesticides.
  • Brush clean up by cutting branches into manageable pieces with chainsaw/hand saw, feeding branches into chipper and sweeping/raking/shoveling woodchips and debris.

Location:

Applicants for this work will be required to travel and work throughout the province and may be stationed at any Hydro One facility throughout the province.

Requirements:

Applicants for these positions must have successfully completed Grade 12 or the equivalent including Grade 12 Mathematics (or equivalent) and Grade 12 English (or equivalent). A valid Ontario driver’s license is also required.

Your success is based on a good work ethic, quality skills and a great attitude. Related work experience is an asset. The ability to work with Chainsaw, wood/branch chipper and related arboriculture tool operations is an asset.

Working Environment:

Utility Arborist Apprentices are required to travel and work throughout the province. The work will appeal to those individuals that enjoy physical work that is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You will be required to work at heights, on ladders, in aerial devices and in trees.
